Also Known as PHP2Shell

Part of the PHP2Shell pair of PHP core flaws fixed on October 21, 2026; this CVE is the stale global state flaw, where request-owned state can outlive its memory and reach a later request on the same worker. Wiz Research combined both flaws into one exploit script named PHP2Shell. PHP rates the risk highest for Apache with mod_php.

Description

PHP has various global state that temporarily points into request memory. In some scenarios, global state may not be correctly reset, or may be repopulated after being reset. The global state may then refer to request memory even after it has been freed. Subsequent requests may read or branch on this stale state before it is fully initialized. Multiple strategies can trigger this condition and produce remote code execution (RCE).
