CIPP/US (Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States)
The CIPP/US exam is on U.S. privacy laws and regulations: federal sector rules, FTC enforcement, state privacy laws and workplace privacy. Legal requirements for moving personal data between the U.S., the EU and other jurisdictions are also in scope.
Exam Details
Computer-based exam at Pearson VUE test centers or through OnVUE online proctoring, with one 15-minute break allowed.
Same price for members and non-members. The IAPP discounts first-time exams for holders of another IAPP certification and retakes of a failed exam. Non-members also need the US$250 certification maintenance fee to activate the certification.
Requirements and Renewal
Prerequisites
None. The IAPP has no experience or prerequisite certification requirement. Candidates must test within one year of buying an exam, and the IAPP recommends at least 30 hours of study.
Renewal
20 CPE credits per two-year term plus a US$250 certification maintenance fee per term. The fee is included in IAPP membership (US$295 a year).

How much is the CIPP/US exam?→
US$550 for both members and non-members. Non-members also pay a separate US$250 maintenance fee per two-year term.
What is the CIPP/US passing score?→
IAPP exams are scored from 100 to 500, and 300 is the pass mark. The IAPP states that 300 does not represent 60 percent.
How are CIPP/US questions distributed?→
The IAPP blueprint sets a minimum and maximum question count per domain instead of percentages. The U.S. Privacy Environment domain has the most, at 27 to 33 questions.
How long does CIPP/US stay valid?→
Each certification term lasts two years. Holders need 20 CPE credits per term and either the maintenance fee or an IAPP membership.
